GREAT football weekend

OK – so the Cowboys lost but that was all I can complain about (and they deserved to lose, honestly)

Let’s start with Bama’s destruction of Georgia and being ranked #2 (#4 in the USA Today poll???? What are you guys smoking?). That first half could not have gone any better and it helps that they let down in the second half because it will give Saban something to coach about. That crowd could not have looked more shocked had a UFO come over the stadium and beamed down Hitler.

Vandy 4-0 (and ranked)

Yes, I root for Bama but I went to Vanderbilt and now they are 4-0 and ranked. Process that -Vanderbilt ranked. Vanderbilt is generally the doormat of the SEC (now I guess it’s UT which is even sweeter) and the only private school in the conference. Nobody expects Vanderbilt to compete for national or even conference championships but win 7 games and make a bowl and they’ll name a building after you.

As one of the few people that can legitimately claim to have been to Vanderbilt’s last bowl game (1982), I’m going to definitely make the next one. Vandy has some winnable games the rest of the year so if they hit that magical 7 win mark it’s road-trip time!

Preparations

First off, thanks a lot Nashvillians. I don’t know what it is about this city that causes people to go into ridiculous panics like they do. We’re not in the path of hurricanes and we’re not sitting on any fault lines. Sure we get tornadoes but so do lots of areas and we get the occasional snow. Everytime there’s the hint of snow people raid all the grocery stores and clean out all the bread and milk. Never mind that we are rarely snowed in for more than a day or two and that if the power goes out the milk is gone anyway.

But this gas shortage takes the cake. A rumor went out that Nashville was about to run out of gas so everybody and their brother hit the gas stations causing…guess what? That’s right – a gas shortage.

Web video stinks

Sorry I’ve been away for a while – had the flu only to get over it and hit my fall allergies so I haven’t felt like much but I caught up on sleep.

Now I’m trying to catch up on my TV shows and I’m VERY disappointed.

Let’s start with TNT. I saw that they were putting episodes on Angel online. This is a show that hasn’t been on since 2004 and TNT relegates it to that prime 5-7 AM slot. Well, I thought I’d see what they had to offer since they’re currently showing some of the not-so-good episodes. What do I get? First off I have to install some special movie viewer for the TNT site only to find out that they are just offering for, as near as I can tell, random episodes. Why would they even advertise this?

Now let’s go to CBS. I wanted to watch some episodes of How I Met Your Mother. First off, it’s near impossible to find anything but clips and when you try to pull up season 3 episodes you just get an error. I finally just gave up and mailed them.

Not only that, but ever tried to skip to a particular part of an episode? I understand the need for commercials on the web video but if I miss the part I want I’ve got to watch the stupid commercial again.

No wonder Tivo is doing so well…

Sometimes the Scene is stupid for even them

Here in Nashville we have some free rag called the Nashville Scene. It includes some local news and commentary but most people just get it for movie, play, and music times (and they sometimes screw those up). They are a pretty liberal bunch and they don’t especially hide it, which is fine – it’s their paper and they can do what they want but they at least should havesome sense, right?

After reading this last night, I just had to comment on what this idiot said.
